As faculty at Vanderbilt’s Center for Integrative Health, I work with an inter-professional team treating patients with complex medical conditions. We help people with chronic pain in chronic disease to manage their symptoms and live their best possible life.
Typically, when medical doctors run out of options, patients can still improve their quality of life, sometimes dramatically. I train patients in self-care skills that support their ongoing healing and wellbeing.
These skills are important in many areas.
People need enjoyable and supportive relationships, a healthy relationship with food, an attuned connection with their body, safe movement practices, and the skills to be courageous while minimizing negative stress.
We focus beyond pain management to life management. I provide therapeutic support and train you in how to address these issues and refer you to appropriate resources (e.g., a nutritionist, yoga or Tai-Chi teacher).
